Buried Alive
Some say to be a sunflower
Ever-turning towards the light
Eyes ablaze
Blinded by its rays
Rather,
I feel pulled
To what lies beneath
Roots forming
Weaving
Reaching
Guiding me further
Down into the depths
Finding stability as I forge through
Blanketed in the earth’s embrace
Finding wisdom weeping in her womb
Her arms wrapped around my sorrow
She, an alchemist
Turning pain into fertile ground
Decomposing what doesn’t belong
I breathe in her rich decay
Filling my lungs with soil
For I know she nourishes
And I will emerge renewed
Erupting in song
For it’s in darkness
That the seed splits open
I am buried
Yet I am alive
