Flawless Strawberries

Strawberries have just been ripening here the past week - and what a treat to pop (literally if they are ripe, they will make a popping noise!) and take a bite of a warm, sweet heart berry. But it can be quite the disappointment, when they have already been eaten by someone else.

So here is a trick that I have recently discovered that keeps your strawberries from getting eaten by slugs, earwigs, birds, and whatever else might like to munch on this delicious berry: Organza bags! Super helpful for any fruit really, as well as isolating seeds for saving (see that post here). Make sure to get ones that are big enough to fit a bunch of berries (I like the 5”x7” ones) and have the draw strings to pull it shut. Super easy - just make sure to do this after the bees have pollinated the flowers and you don’t pull too hard on the strings to break the stems.

And then ta-da! Beautiful flawless strawberries. Enjoy!
